Finally, the X3 includes a new, aircraft-grade, extruded aluminum mounting bracket built tough to minimize flex and deliver precision control under high-thrust.
X3 55FW Digital Full Details
Small to medium sized freshwater v-hull, pontoon, jon and general fishing boats up to 21'. The 55 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 2,750 lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weighs - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique:
The X3 Digital series is a step-up from the Freshwater series and the regular X3 in that it now features variable control. While both models are controlled with a cable foot pedal, the X3 Digital offers improved steering control and sturdier shaft construction. Additionally, the X3 Digital is available with thrust options of 55 and 70 lbs.
If you're looking for value-priced wireless control, we recommend the MotorGuide Wireless series trolling motors. The Wireless series motors are available in 45, 55 and 75 lb thrust levels.
Shaft lengths of 36" and 45" are available for X3 55 Digital motors. For help selecting a shaft length, please see our shaft guide.
Variable Control, Precision Steering, Combined Composite and Stainless Shaft, Two-Blade Prop. (Learn about these features)
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling into the boat for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our compatibility and mounting guides.

- X3 55 trolling motor
- Foot pedal
- Power leads
- Mounting hardware
- Owners manual
What Else Is Required:
1 Marine Battery, Battery Charger, Circuit Breaker (Recommended)
42 amps at maximum speed
Motor Run Time:
Important Note: As you likely won't be running your trolling motor perpetually, the actual amount of on-the-water time a motor should allow will be substantially longer than times listed. Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 4.8 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 2.4 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
The X3 series motors features a new aircraft-grade extruded aluminum mount. When the trolling motor is not in use, the motor can be manually removed from the water and naturally rotates into a flat position to convenient stow on the deck. When ready for use, simply slide the motor head and shaft forward, and it effortlessly swings back down into the water.
Motor Steering Method:
The MotorGuide X3 series motors are steered by foot pedal. The cable-driven foot pedal is controlled by rocking your foot back and forth to control motor direction while motor speed is controlled by the rotating dial on the side of the foot pedal.
An adjustable depth collar makes it easy to set how deep the shaft and propeller sit in the water.
MotorGuide X3 Digital motors are variable speed. Learn more about fixed vs. variable speed motors.
MotorGuide motors carry a 2 year warranty against manufacture defects and a lifetime warranty on shafts, all supported by hundreds of local MotorGuide service centers across the country.

X3 55FW Digital Reviews
I purchased the digital model because I wanted the variable speed option. That part works great and the motor is smooth and quite. After the first time using it, I noticed the lighted directional arrow was not aligned with the motor. I called motor guide customer service and the person said to remove the top and re-align the arrow. I did that, and now after using it probably fifteen times, I have had to remove the top and re-align the arrow almost each time I get home. After calling the factory twice and each time they tell me I need to drive 2 1/2 hours (5 hours round trip) to my nearest repair center for warranty work, or me pay for shipping, it makes me wish I had purchased a minn kota. Hate to spend $600 bucks and then pay shipping for their faulty product. There is noting broke, it just that they use a cheap plastic rod for the gears to turn on and it is too flimsy. It will flex so easy that the cogs jump out of alignment.
RiverHawk, B60 (15'-3")
The purchase, delivery and installation went smoothly. I'm still adJustin to the latch on the motor in the retracted position. Pulling the rope is awkard. Guess I should review the Manual for instructuons. Otherwise I enjoy the variable speed and overall power and smoothness.
14 foot flat bottom
The x3 55 is far superior to the old 54 pound thrust motor guide that I swapped out, very little torque on high speed making it a breeze to steer with the foot control, ordered one day in two days it was at my door. Less expensive than any where else , free shipping and no TAX!!!!!!
16' Bass Boat
I looked at the "big" guys, but why go there when I can go to a dealer that specializes in trolling motors? Once I saw no tax and shipping, I was locked on. TrollingMotors.net provided regular updates as to shipping, and the new motor arrived exactly when they said it would. The X3 Digital is quiet, responsive, and doesn't seem to drain the battery like my old one. The new foot pedal is awesome as well. I ******* mine to the deck, and that kept the cable out of the way and I was no longer kicking the foot pedal all over the place. I highly recommend this motor for smaller bass boats that operate on a 12v system, and very highly recommend TM.net as the place to buy. I have another club tourney coming up Aug. 27, and I'll be sure to let my fellow club members know where I purchased this motor. Thanks Trolling Motors.net!
Venture Pacer 1550
This motor replaced a Motor Guide Brute Force 3400. The shipping was very quick and the motor arrived in good shape. The support that I received in choosing a motor and ensuring that the motor arrived in good shape was great. If I have trolling motor needs, trollingmotors.net is where I will go and recommend that others do also for great service and a curtisous staff.
This motor replaced a 21 year old 30lb MotorGuide. Very easy to operate and highly recommend the digital model for the variable speed. Very solid and well built motor.
Crestliner Storm 16
Item shipped very quickly and was in perfect condition when it arrived. Installation was a breeze with straight forward instructions included. Foot control operated the unit very well with excellent control. I really liked the "pull-pull" design of the foot control cable system, smooth and easy. We struck a few rocks during some low water conditions but the composite lower shaft flexed as designed with no damage to the shaft. We fished for 5 hours continuously and the digital circuitry performed flawlessly and we still had plenty of battery power left at the end of the day. The unit opens and retracts smoothly back into it's cradle base. The base is very strong and is essentially bullet-proof. I like the illuminated "direction arrow" on the head for night time fishing. There is a nice choice of propellers for power and cutting through dense weeds. The speed control rotating knob on the foot control is smooth and precise. We've had the trolling motor out on the water 4 times now and it's performed flawlessly with no issues at all. That's a total of over 20 hours of fishing. I highly recommend this unit for anyone wanting a reliable and smooth operating unit.
