Introducing the revolutionary Minn Kota Ulterra 80 trolling motor. Your time on the water is sacred and you want to spend it hooking into serious fish, not wrestling with your trolling motor. Maybe you’re also getting a little older and you’ve finally earned the right to stop pulling your motor out of the water all day long. Or you simply want the best, most advanced product on the market. Whatever the case, the Minn Kota Ulterra is worth a serious look.
Ulterra features innovative Automatic Stow/Deploy and Power Trim, along with the legendary i-Pilot or i-Pilot Link control system, redesigned for 2017 to include more accurate GPS and improved functionality. Want to stow or deploy your motor? Push a button on the remote. Want to raise or lower the depth of your motor? Push a button. Want to “anchor” against the wind or current? Yep, just push a button! The features list goes on…
Make no mistake, we know a lot of us like things the old fashioned way, and when Minn Kota first released the Ulterra we had some doubts, concerned that the motor might have too many moving parts. But after testing the motor ourselves, and dozens of phone calls with early customers, we are excited to give it our full endorsement. The Ulterra is rugged and reliable with only a few moving parts where absolutely necessary. Minn Kota cut no corners, even using a kevlar belt and brass gearing in the power lift assembly.
Comes standard with i-Pilot (includes handheld remote and wired foot pedal), US2 Sonar, Digital Maximizer, Weedless Wedge 2 prop, Heading Sensor, Bluetooth smartphone app, and a two-year warranty. Also available with i-Pilot Link. To learn more, grab our FREE Trolling Motor Buyer's Guide.
Ulterra 80 Full Details
Medium to large freshwater v-hull, bass, pontoon and general fishing boats up to 23'. The 80 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 4,000lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weighs - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique
The Ulterra series is the flagship motor from Minn Kota and a step up from the Terrova line of motors. While both models are available with i-Pilot or i-Pilot Link technology, only the Ulterra line offers Minn Kota's revolutionary new Auto Stow/Deploy and Power Trim technology. Additionally, Ulterra comes standard with US2 Sonar and is available in 80 or 112 lbs thrust. We recommend the Terrova trolling motor for fishermen who are looking for a top-shelf motor that is compatible with AutoPilot/CoPilot/i-Pilot/i-Pilot Link accessories but don't need Auto Stow/Deploy and Power Trim. Terrova is available in 55, 80 and 112 lb thrust levels.
Ulterra 80 motors are available in 45" or 60" shaft lengths. For help selecting a shaft length, please see our shaft guide.
Variable Speed Motor, i-Pilot (or Link) Ulterra Remote, Ulterra Foot Pedal, US2 Sonar, Digital Maximizer, Built-In Battery Gauge, Weedless Wedge Prop, Composite Shaft, Heading Sensor, Bluetooth Smartphone App. (Learn about these features)
i-Pilot Link: Advanced GPS powered boat control. (More on i-Pilot Link)
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling into the boat for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our compatibility and mounting guides or download specific motor installation instructions and heading sensor instructions. Quick Release Bracket: We strongly suggest using the MKA-32. Due to the slight overhang of the Ulterra motor mount, the locking pin on MKA-21 quick release bracket can be difficult to access and remove.

Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 3.6 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 1.8 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
Auto Stow/Deploy and Power Trim. Use your handheld remote or foot pedal to automatically deploy, trim and stow your motor - all at the touch of a button!
Motor Steering Method:
The motor is steered via the included i-Pilot Ulterra handheld remote and Ulterra foot pedal, both of which can control motor speed and direction.
Power Trim. Use your remotes to trim your motor up and down to your liking. Ulterra software even remembers your most recent trim depth.
All Terrova motors have a variable speed motor. Learn more about fixed vs. variable speed motors.

Ulterra 80 Reviews

We recently bought an Ulterra 80 trolling motor - we took it out for a test drive the other day. Great instructions to install the motor but not so much on how to use the remote. If we had a cell phone we could have scanned a code and downloaded instructions, but no cell phone - a paper copy of instructions would have been nice. With the remote the motor works good, as of yet we haven't figured out how to make it work with the foot pedal. Once the snow melts we'll get out and try it again. Overall I think we're going to enjoy the new motor but only time will tell. the service from trollingmotors.net was excellent - the motor came in only two days!

Prompt service and shipment. Trolling motor was a great upgrade. There will definitely be a learning curve in utilizing this machine to its full potential. I am very pleased with this so far.
Bimini 240 Pontoon 24’
Very good motor, works as advertised, using on a 24’ Lowe pontoon and will also use on a 16’ Lowe River Jon with the quick release bracket. Can’t say enough good about the motor , was easy to install and set up

Trolling motor is excellent and my shopping experience was great also had a few questions e-mailed and they returned my email the same day
Shopping with TrollingMotors.Net couldn't be easier. They quickly answered my questions and I placed my order. The package arrived within 3 days. The new Ulterra installed fairly easily using my existing slide mount from my old MinnKota powerdrive. I've only had it out one day on water and the basic functions were easy to learn. The auto stow/deploy worked well and will be a real benefit. Hopefully time will prove this to be a reliable product. The autocompass that is needed for the spot log jog feature requires a 1 amp inline fuse but it's not included, you'd think for a product costing over $2000 they would include the fuse. Also the powerwire for the compass is extremely small (guessing size 20ga?) and there is no battery connection provided, again Minn Kota should provide everything you need for your installations.
Haven’t put it on the boat yet. Still trying to find out how.
After reading instruction books I still had to talk to Minn Kota 2 times before I figured out how get it to disengage and return but finally got it to work. It's pretty complicated. The booklet is not very good. Now that it's working it will save on my bad back.

Ive used a cable controled TM for 20 years so this is a new experience. There is a learning curve but Anyone should be able to use after a few times on the water. The big game changer for me is it makes it easier to fish due to a disability wirh my legs.
