Pontoon 55 Full Details

How It's Unique
The Minn Kota hand-controlled pontoon motor is designed to be functional, space efficient, and affordable. The motor includes a pontoon-specific latch & door mount that allows the trolling motor to be vertically raised and lowered into the water and easily removed when not in use. Five forward and three reverse speeds ensure that you will be able to maneuver your pontoon around any lake. Available in 55 and 75 lb thrust models.
The Minn Kota Powerdrive V2 pontoon is a step up from the hand-controlled pontoon motor. compared to the hand-control version, the Powerdrive V2 is a variable speed motor and is compatible with i-Pilot and Co-Pilot wireless accessories. Additionally, the PowerDrive V2 Pontoon includes an aluminum quick release plate for easy motor removal and is available in 54 and 68 lb thrust models.
The Minn Kota Pontoon 55 motor comes with a 52" shaft. For help selecting a shaft length, please see our shaft guide.
Fixed Speed Motor, Small Footprint Latch & Door Mount, Weedless Wedge Prop, Composite Shaft. (Learn about these features)
Minn Kota Pontoon is compatible with select handle extensions and accessories - please see the right-hand side product bar.
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling into the boat for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our compatibility and mounting guides.
Minn Kota Pontoon motors can be wired directly to the batteries, and can also be used in conjunction with a plug and receptacle for a cleaner, more professional installation that's easy to remove. To protect your motor from damage, a circuit breaker is also recommended but is not required for installation.

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: As you likely won't be running your trolling motor perpetually, the actual amount of on-the-water time a motor should allow will be substantially longer than times listed. Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20 Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 4 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 2 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
The Minn Kota hand-controlled pontoon motor is deployed by loosening the depth collar and sliding the motor vertically down into the water. Doing the opposite will allow you to stow the motor. To remove the motor for storage, simply loosen the screw on the front of the latch & door mount and pull the motor out of the mount.
Motor Steering Method:
The Pontoon 55 is steered by moving the hand tiller. Motor speed is controlled by rotating the hand lever.
An adjustable depth collar makes it easy to set how deep the shaft and propeller sit in the water.
All hand-controlled pontoon motors have 5 forward and 3 reversed fixed speeds. Learn more about fixed vs. variable speed motors.
The motor's composite shaft caries a lifetime guarantee. If it's ever broken - regardless of the circumstances - Minn Kota will replace it at no charge. The rest of the motor caries a two year warranty backed up by hundreds of local Minn Kota service centers across the country.
