Contender Boat
Picking a Trolling Motor for a Contender Boat
- Contender bay boats and center consoles require a 36v trolling motors with 100 lbs - 115+ lbs max thrust and shaft lengths from 60" to 115".
- For the most part, owners of larger saltwater boats like Contenders purchase trolling motors for their GPS auto-navigation technology such as Minn Kota's Advanced GPS. The anchor feature (aka Spot Lock) enables fishing over deep structure with incredible accuracy without having to worry about anchors or drifting.
- Boats of this size require the latest generation of brushless trolling motors such as the Minn Kota Riptide Instinct , the Garmin Force Kraken and Lowrance Saltwater Recon. These motors provide the thrust, efficiency and and long shaft lengths required to propel boats of this size.
- We often recommend a rotating mount like the Shuttle Slide 7.5R. It allows you to mount the trolling motor straight down the gunwale as opposed to diagonally across the bow. When you want to deploy the motor simply rotate it on the base and you're in business.
- Lastly, a high-quality power supply is paramount. If you're going to invest in a high-end trolling motor, don't skimp on batteries. Lithium batteries outperform traditional batteries in almost every way and typically last 5 times longer. Contender Thrust Selection
Please remember that boat weight is the most important criteria to use when selecting an appropriate motor size. Boat length and fishing conditions do play a significant role in the consideration process but the boat weight is the primary factor. If you're unsure how much your boat weighs, you can look it up in the JD Power boat directory.

Why buy from Bass Pro or Cabelas when you can buy from these guys? From start to finish this was one of the best, if not the best, online shopping experiences I’ve ever had. The owner answered all my questions, the prices were great, and the motor arrived in two days. Don’t buy anywhere else.
