Introducing the revolutionary Minn Kota Ulterra 80 trolling motor. Your time on the water is sacred and you want to spend it hooking into serious fish, not wrestling with your trolling motor. Maybe you’re also getting a little older and you’ve finally earned the right to stop pulling your motor out of the water all day long. Or you simply want the best, most advanced product on the market. Whatever the case, the Minn Kota Ulterra is worth a serious look.
Ulterra features innovative Automatic Stow/Deploy and Power Trim, along with the legendary i-Pilot or i-Pilot Link control system, redesigned for 2017 to include more accurate GPS and improved functionality. Want to stow or deploy your motor? Push a button on the remote. Want to raise or lower the depth of your motor? Push a button. Want to “anchor” against the wind or current? Yep, just push a button! The features list goes on…
Make no mistake, we know a lot of us like things the old fashioned way, and when Minn Kota first released the Ulterra we had some doubts, concerned that the motor might have too many moving parts. But after testing the motor ourselves, and dozens of phone calls with early customers, we are excited to give it our full endorsement. The Ulterra is rugged and reliable with only a few moving parts where absolutely necessary. Minn Kota cut no corners, even using a kevlar belt and brass gearing in the power lift assembly.
Comes standard with i-Pilot (includes handheld remote and wired foot pedal), US2 Sonar, Digital Maximizer, Weedless Wedge 2 prop, Heading Sensor, Bluetooth smartphone app, and a two-year warranty. Also available with i-Pilot Link. To learn more, grab our FREE Trolling Motor Buyer's Guide.
Ulterra 80 Full Details
Medium to large freshwater v-hull, bass, pontoon and general fishing boats up to 23'. The 80 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 4,000lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weighs - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique
The Ulterra series is the flagship motor from Minn Kota and a step up from the Terrova line of motors. While both models are available with i-Pilot or i-Pilot Link technology, only the Ulterra line offers Minn Kota's revolutionary new Auto Stow/Deploy and Power Trim technology. Additionally, Ulterra comes standard with US2 Sonar and is available in 80 or 112 lbs thrust. We recommend the Terrova trolling motor for fishermen who are looking for a top-shelf motor that is compatible with AutoPilot/CoPilot/i-Pilot/i-Pilot Link accessories but don't need Auto Stow/Deploy and Power Trim. Terrova is available in 55, 80 and 112 lb thrust levels.
Ulterra 80 motors are available in 45" or 60" shaft lengths. For help selecting a shaft length, please see our shaft guide.
Variable Speed Motor, i-Pilot (or Link) Ulterra Remote, Ulterra Foot Pedal, US2 Sonar, Digital Maximizer, Built-In Battery Gauge, Weedless Wedge Prop, Composite Shaft, Heading Sensor, Bluetooth Smartphone App. (Learn about these features)
i-Pilot Link: Advanced GPS powered boat control. (More on i-Pilot Link)
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling into the boat for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our compatibility and mounting guides or download specific motor installation instructions and heading sensor instructions. Quick Release Bracket: We strongly suggest using the MKA-32. Due to the slight overhang of the Ulterra motor mount, the locking pin on MKA-21 quick release bracket can be difficult to access and remove.

Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 3.6 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 1.8 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
Auto Stow/Deploy and Power Trim. Use your handheld remote or foot pedal to automatically deploy, trim and stow your motor - all at the touch of a button!
Motor Steering Method:
The motor is steered via the included i-Pilot Ulterra handheld remote and Ulterra foot pedal, both of which can control motor speed and direction.
Power Trim. Use your remotes to trim your motor up and down to your liking. Ulterra software even remembers your most recent trim depth.
All Terrova motors have a variable speed motor. Learn more about fixed vs. variable speed motors.

I love the ulterra 80. The ipilot is great

Trolling motor.net awesome job quick delivery and great experience!, Johnson products? Had it out three times, more than enough power, i pilot autopilot is qwerky heading sensors are a joke. I put in two humminbird helix network heads, network and trolling motor, then find out that to get the features I wanted the most I have to spend another $350, on maps and software. Dropping $7k system should get better documentation and features that function better ( not random boat spinning , or unable to point boat path heading accurately), just no where close to being worth the money to many bugs to be work out.
Best trolling motor money can buy. Love it!

The Ulterra 80 works great, pretty nice just to launch my boat send it out deploy the trolling motor push anchor and drive off the ramp, retired and fish 98% of the time by myself. 100% satisfied with all the features.

Have had the 80lb Ulterra for 4 years now. Best item I ever purchased, has worked flawlessly and runs all day long on a 24 volt config. Use the wireless controller all the time without fail. Spotlock works great but does jockey the boat around a bit. In and out of the water is worth its weight in gold on a long day fishing.
when it works it is great but have had it for one year and 2 months they tell me the board went out Not happy ,did not hit anything just heavy winds now it will only deploy and stow , if this is all it takes to fail they can have it back

Shopping experience was good but product was defective i-Link doesn’t work minnkota and Humminbird have not corrected problem

My shopping experience was phenomenal. I used my Minn Kota Ulterra for the first time today. I am not convinced the stow/deploy is a good thing yet. I had to hot the deploy button several times before if finally did each of the 3-5 times I deployed. Worse than that however, is that it would not fully store because of the short little cord from the motor housing to the base kept getting stuck in between those things and blocking a full stow which caused a “motor error”. We finally got the cord pushed in and the motor stowed but still got a motor error signal. We followed directions to reset the thing and it would not do it after I hit the button 3 times within 2 seconds. For some reason it started working again. It also started raining and we didn’t have problems with the stow on the last one. We think the cord was slick enough to pass through. It appears to be a design flaw on the placement of that short cord. I am going to put vaseline on it to keep it slick, or maybe it just needs to break in. Frustrating start, but hopefully it was a one time break in thing. I can’t believe it is a common thing or nobody would buy them. Either way, my experience with George at TrollingMotors.net was amazing.

This Ulterra has been a game changer for us. The fact that you never have to touch the motor is fantastic. And the spot lock feature makes it so much easier to deal with your fish and not worry about boat control. The guys at TrollingMotor.net where great. Fast delivery, good follow up. All around great experience.
