For serious fisherman, and serious Motorguide fans, we are excited to offer the new Xi5 wireless trolling motor. The Xi5 represents a big step in the right direction for Motorguide and points to their renewed focus on technological innovation and design. The Xi5 offers a host of new features including sophisticated steering transmission, well-lit status indicators, fully protected electronics, a low-profile mount, and a composite shaft. It's engineered to be reliable and long-lasting.
The new Xi5 includes wireless capability "right out of the box", enabling you to precisely control your motor from anywhere on the boat. A wireless foot pedal is standard with freshwater models and a hand-held remote is standard with saltwater models. The new Xi5 also runs smooth and extremely quiet. Order it with Pinpoint GPS, MotorGuide's answer to Minn Kota's i-Pilot, and experience the benefits of virtual anchoring, route recording and autopilot/cruise control.
See below for additional product details.
Xi5 80 FW Full Details
Medium to large freshwater v-hull, bass, pontoon and general fishing boats up to 23'. The 80 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 4,000lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weighs - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique
The Xi5 series is a step-up from the previous MotorGuide Wireless line of motors. While both models can be controlled wirelessly, only the Xi5 line offers the ability to use GPS to control and position your boat. Additionally, the Xi5 is available with thrust options of 55, 80 and 105 lbs and in saltwater specific models.
Xi5 80 FW is available in shaft lengths of 45", 54", 60" and 72". For help selecting a shaft length, please see our shaft guide.
Fully Protected Electronics, Variable Speed Motor, Electric Foot Pedal, LED Indicator Lights, Two-Blade Prop, Composite Shaft, Low Profile Mount. (Learn about these features)
- Pinpoint GPS: Advanced GPS-powered boat control (More on Pinpoint GPS)
- Sonar: Built-in transducer (More on Sonar)
The Xi5 includes 8 different mounting options enabling reverse mounting compatibility with older MotorGuide installations as well as competitive models. This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling into the boat for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our compatibility and mounting guides.
Xi5 80 can be wired directly to the batteries, and can also be used in conjunction with a plug and receptacle for a cleaner, more professional installation that's easy to remove. To protect your motor from damage, a circuit breaker is also recommended but is not required for installation. The Xi5 80 requires a 50 amp breaker.
Motor Voltage and Batteries:
Xi5 80 FW is a 24 volt motor and requires (2) 12-volt marine batteries. For more information, see our articles on battery selection or battery wiring diagrams.
Power Lead Length:
What Is Included:
- Xi5 80 FW trolling motor
- Foot pedal and/or GPS wireless remote (depending on model selected)
- Power leads
- Mounting hardware
- Owners manual
What Else Is Required:
2 Marine Batteries, Battery Charger, 50 or 60 amp Circuit Breaker (Recommended)

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: As you likely won't be running your trolling motor perpetually, the actual amount of on-the-water time a motor should allow will be substantially longer than times listed. Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 4.8 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 2.4 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
Xi5's Deploy-Assist lever makes it easy to deploy the motor by squeezing a lever, raising the shaft and deploying it into the water. When not in use, the shaft and head can be quickly removed from the water and laid on the deck for storage.
Motor Steering Method:
The motor is steered via the included wireless foot pedal which controls motor speed and direction. If equipped with Motorguide's Pinpoint GPS, you can control the motor with the wireless handheld unit.
An adjustable depth collar makes it easy to set how deep the shaft and propeller sit in the water.
All MotorGuide Xi5 motors have a variable speed motor. Learn more about fixed vs. variable speed motors.
MotorGuide motors carry a 2 year warranty against manufacture defects and is supported by hundreds of local MotorGuide service centers across the country.
