2024 Terrova 80 Full Details
Recommended for:
Medium freshwater center console, Carolina skiffs, Deep-V, flats boats, Pontoon, Fish N' Ski and general fishing boats. The 24v - 80 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats with a fully laden weight up to 3,500lbs and length up to 20'. However, fishing conditions, hull design/shape and intended use all have a significant impact on calculating the appropriate amount of thrust for your boat. For more help determining the right thrust for your boat please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique
The Terrova is a step-up from Minn Kota's entry-level PowerDrive line of motors. Compared to the PowerDrive 70, this Terrova 80 has 10 lbs. more thrust and available shaft lengths up to 72". It's also easier to stow and deploy has a more rugged construction.
All Terrovas are equipped with Advanced GPS and come with the a full size Advanced GPS Remote and a Heading Sensor (enables the popular Jog Feature). Most freshwater Terrova models also include a multi-function foot pedal and integrated sonar. Freshwater PowerDrives are available with Advanced GPS and the smaller Micro Remote as an option. All other freshwater PowerDrive models are operated by foot pedal only.
While both models offer GPS technology, only the Freshwater Terrova lineup enables simultaneous operation with wireless remote and multi-function foot pedal.
We recommend the PowerDrive trolling motors for fishermen who are looking for a no frills, value-priced motor with optional Advanced GPS (including Spot Lock) or foot pedal operation. The PowerDrive is available in 55 and 70 lbs thrust levels. If you need a motor with higher thrust levels, longer available shaft lengths, standard Advanced GPS with full size remote, one-hand stow/deploy and more available features the Terrova is the motor for you.

Mounting Details:
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling 4-6 bolts into the hull for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our compatibility guides or download motor installation instructions and heading sensor instructions.
If you wish to take the motor on and off your boat, you can also opt for a quick release bracket which is a very popular choice. For 45" and 60" models select the MKA-21 quick release bracket. Models with 72" shaft lengths require the more heavily reinforced MKA-64 Bracket. A specialized mounting solution such as the Shuttle Slide SS-7.5 Rotating mount can also provide more installation options for boats with limited deck space.
Mount Dimensions:
14 17/16" length x 8 3/8" width
Motor Wiring Details:
The Terrova 80 can be wired directly to the batteries or it can be used in conjunction with a plug and receptacle for a cleaner, more professional installation. If using a quick release bracket, a plug and receptacle like the Minn Kota MKR-28 will allow you to plug and unplug the motor for easy removal and re-mounting.
To protect your motor from damage, a circuit breaker is highly recommended.
Shielded, marine grade wiring should be used to connect the motor to the power source (aka batteries!). To determine the appropriate gauge wiring download this circuit breaker and wiring table.
Motor Voltage and Batteries:
The Terrova 80 is a 24 volt motor and requires two (2), 12-volt marine batteries or (1) 24v LiFePO4 lithium battery (min 50AH rating). For more information on the proper batteries to purchase for your trolling motor, see our Trolling Motor Battery Selection Guide.
If you are using lead acid or AGM batteries, the two batteries must be wired "in series" to provide the proper voltage output. For instructions on how to properly wire multiple 12v batteries in series, take a look at our 24v-36v trolling motor wiring diagram.
Power Lead Length:
Two 5' power leads (red and black) ending in terminal rings (aka lugs). Minn Kota motors do not come from the factory with trolling motor power plugs. A new power plug can be crimped or heat shrunk onto the power leads; make sure to have a matching receptacle installed in the hull. If you are replacing an existing motor that has a plug already installed, you can transfer it to the new motor's power leads.
NOTE: Although most power plugs and receptacles are universally compatible regardless of voltage, make sure that they are rated at 60amps or more. Minn Kota and Marinco offer high-quality, reliable plug and receptacle sets.
Pedal Cord Length:
18' Cord

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: Calculating run time is very difficult due to the many factors involved. As you likely won't be running your trolling motor 100% of the time, the actual amount of on-the-water time will be longer than continuous motor run times listed below. Trolling motor run time can vary depending on the boat, operating conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated batteries. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 4.8 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 2.4 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
The Terrova's manual stow and deploy system is activated by a foot lever and employs weight distribution which works like a pendulum and helps carry the weight of the motor. Simply depress the lever, grab the top of the control head, pull up and then swivel the shaft down into the stowed and locked position. The "Auto-Park" feature automatically lines up the lower unit with the mounting ramp for easy stowing.
Motor Steering Method:
The motor is steered via the included Advanced GPS remote control and/or multi-function foot pedal. The Terrova 80 can also connect (aka network) to compatible Humminbird fishfinders via an ethernet connection. This networking feature is part of Minn Kota's "One Boat Network" and allows you to control your motor directly from the Humminbird and tap in to additional auto-navigation and mapping features.
Download Minn Kota's One Boat Network smartphone app to control your motor directly from your phone and sync up with your Humminbird for mapping and auto-navigation features.
