Maxxum 55 - Hand Control Full Details
Small to medium freshwater v-hull, bass, pontoon and general fishing boats up to 17.5'. The 55 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 2,750lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weighs - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique
Maxxum trolling motors are a step up from the Minn Kota Edge as they offer larger thrust levels (up to 80 lbs), a beefy spring-protected shaft housing, an illuminated directional indicator, and select models offer a variable speed motor. This motor is built to last and has some helpful bells and whistles.
The Minn Kota Fortrex is a step-up from the Maxxum motor as it features a super heavy-duty aluminum mono arm, stow and deploy assist, removable BowGuard 360 mount, optional built-in transducer and thrust up to 112 lbs. If you want the most sturdy motor built or would like to integrate your fishfinder with your motor, consider the Minn Kota Fortrex.
The Maxxum 55 Hand Control is available with a 52" shaft only. For help selecting a shaft length, please see our shaft guide.
Fixed Speed Motor, Built-In Direction Indicator, Push-to-Test Battery Gauge, Weedless Wedge Prop, Composite Shaft. (Learn about these features)
Maxxum isn't compatible with any AutoPilot, Sonar or i-Pilot accessories. But it is compatible with select quick release plates and handle extensions - please see the right-hand side product bar.
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling into the boat for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our compatibility and mounting guides.

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: As you likely won't be running your trolling motor perpetually, the actual amount of on-the-water time a motor should allow will be substantially longer than times listed. Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 4 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 2 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
Maxxum motors feature the Bowguard 360 mount. When the trolling motor is not in use, the motor can be manually removed from the water and naturally rotates into a flat position to convenient stow on the deck. When ready for use, simply slide the motor head and shaft forward, and it effortlessly swings back down into the water.
Motor Steering Method:
This Maxxum model is steered by hand. The unique Tilt Twist Tiller handle tilts up to make steering easier and more convenient. Motor speed is controlled by rotating the hand lever.
An adjustable depth collar makes it easy to set how deep the shaft and propeller sit in the water.
This Maxxum motor is a fixed speed motor. Learn more about fixed vs. variable speed motors.
The motor's composite shaft caries a lifetime guarantee. If it's ever broken - regardless of the circumstances - Minn Kota will replace it at no charge. The rest of the motor caries a two year warranty backed up by hundreds of local Minn Kota service centers across the country. View Details Here

Gatortail flat bottom 17ft
This trolling motor for the most part is worth the money you will pay. It's very smooth operation makes it nice for deploying and stowing the trolling motor several times a day. The 55lbs thrust is perfect for my 17x54 flat bottom boat. The weed less prop does fairly well for the most part depending on what type of vegetation you are going through or how thick. Really the only reason I didn't give this trolling motor a 5 star is because there seems to be a lot of slack in the handle when switching speeds. But I definetly would recommend it to any fisherman
