Maxxum 70 Full Details
Medium to large freshwater v-hull, bass, pontoon and general fishing boats up to 23'. The 70 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 3,500lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weighs - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique:
Maxxum trolling motors are a step up from the Minn Kota Edge as they offer larger thrust levels, a beefy spring-protected shaft housing, an illuminated directional indicator, and select models offer a variable speed motor. This motor is built to last and has some helpful bells and whistles.
The Minn Kota Fortrex is a step-up from the Maxxum motor as it features a super heavy-duty aluminum mono arm, stow and deploy assist, removable BowGuard 360 mount, and an optional built-in transducer. If you want the most sturdy motor built or would like to integrate your fishfinder with your motor, consider the Minn Kota Fortrex.
Shaft lengths of 42" and 52" are available for Maxxum 70 motors. For help selecting a shaft length, please see our shaft guide.
Variable or Fixed Speed Motor, Cable-Driven foot pedal, Digital Maximizer (variable speed models), Built-In Direction Indicator, Push-to-Test Battery Gauge, Weedless Wedge Prop, Composite Shaft. (Learn about these features)
Maxxum isn't compatible with any AutoPilot, Sonar or i-Pilot accessories. But it is compatible with select quick release plates and handle extensions - please see the right-hand side product bar.
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling into the boat for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use compatibility and mounting guides.
Short pattern - 29.375" x 7" (on 42" shaft). Long pattern - 34.875" x 7" (on 52" shafts)

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: As you likely won't be running your trolling motor perpetually, the actual amount of on-the-water time a motor should allow will be substantially longer than times listed. Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 4.8 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 2.4 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
Maxxum motors feature the Bowguard 360 mount. When the trolling motor is not in use, the motor can be manually removed from the water and naturally rotates into a flat position to convenient stow on the deck. When ready for use, simply slide the motor head and shaft forward, and it effortlessly swings back down into the water.
Motor Steering Method:
This Maxxum model is steered by foot pedal. The cable-driven foot pedal is controlled by rocking your foot back and forth to control motor direction while motor speed is controlled by the rotating dial on the side of the foot pedal.
An adjustable depth collar makes it easy to set how deep the shaft and propeller sit in the water.
Maxxum motors have either a variable speed or fixed speed motor. Learn more about fixed vs. variable speed motors.
The motor's composite shaft caries a lifetime guarantee. If it's ever broken - regardless of the circumstances - Minn Kota will replace it at no charge. The rest of the motor caries a two year warranty backed up by hundreds of local Minn Kota service centers across the country. View Details Here

polarkraft 17.5' aluminum bass boat
as for service, trollingmotors.net surprised me with speed of delivery. thank you! I prefer the minnkota maxxum 70 because my first one was extremely serviceable. the spring loaded bow mount has saved that motor many times. I fish saline estuaries and didn't take care of the first one. by adding a zinc anode and flushing with fresh water I think this one will out live me.

1995 Stratos 278 18ft
Upgraded the original Evinrude trolling motor. Haven't had it in the water just yet but undoubtedly a quality product but more importantly a quality vendor in trollingmotors.net. I was a little hesitant purchasing online but after visiting bass pro and dealing with them passing off older models and stock as new I pulled the trigger. You won't be disappointed. Quick, easy and exactly what was advertised. I won't buy anywhere else from here on out. Keep up the good work!
Center console bay boat 18 feet.
Bought my boat new in 2003. It came with a Minn Kota salt water handle steer which I used until now. (Still works) Even though I have a salt water boat, I fish mostly fresh water, and I do fish salt but almost never use my trolling motor. That fact and many others brought me to purchase a foot controlled motor. I also wanted to go 24 volt. After shopping around and looking at different models I decided to go with the Maxxum 70. I made one mistake. My old motor was a 52 inch so I assumed that replacing it with a 52 inch was the way to go. I had never owned a foot control before so it never occurred to me there was a difference in motor style. The hand control motor was much higher above the mount than a foot control is. So after installing the new motor, I found that it was deeper in the water than I was used too by about 10 inches. No big deal, if I need, I just raise it some. But I could have been fine with a 42 or a 45 inch model. (Hope this helpful to someone). After much looking, I found "TrollingMotors.net" What a find!! Best price I could find, free shipping, no tax! Saved me a bunch!! The motor itself installed without a hitch and has worked perfectly the 5 times I have used it. And did I mention that I love it! 24 volt is way better than 12, moves my boat around like one should. I am VERY PLEASED with my purchase!! On another note, Clayton is the owner of the company. I just want to say one thing about him: I wish all companies were run by people like this guy. I don't think I have ever had any dealings with an owner or manager that is as concerned about YOU the customer! Take my word for it, you can trust this guy!! I had no problems, just a question. Left a message, and the owner called me! Great visit, great man. Thanks Clayton. Kenneth Rose
Purchased a Minn kota maxxam 70 to replace my 65. It has performed great. I fish about 20 hours a week and have had great service from Minn kota motors. The new motor was shipped fast. With no damage thanks to trolling motor.net ,great service installed easily in the same holes already drilled for my older motor. Only had this motor for month , hoping it will last as long as my 7 year old. 65
18' Dynatrak Fish and Ski
I upgraded to the 70lb thrust and was happy for about a year. Noticed small cracks forming on casing at top, near screws. After my second year cracks worsened and caused the directional indicator to be out of sink with prop and shortly after to fail to work. I am careful when using the motor and possibly constant raising and lowering of the motor going from spot to spot weakens the plastic cover. Had to replace casing but this is the first of my many trolling motors to crack at the top head cover.
16" Bass Tracker w/ 40 jet
I purchased this unit to replace a Minn Kota AT50 that was 11 years old and abused by the rocks on the ricer were I fish. The new motor was shipped promptly and arrived undamaged. It installed fairly easy on the box of the boat, although the hole pattern did not match the old motor. The first trip out, the motor preformed perfectly and out shined the old AT50. The second time our, about half way thru the day of fishing the motor stopped working. After returning it to an authorized service center, they determined that the control board in the foot peddle went bad and replaced it promptly. Motor has performed perfectly again for the past two trips out and I hope it continues that way. Planning to get get 11 years out of this. Note: make sure you are sitting down or leaning against something when you are using the motor at the 100% power setting!
7.5 foot Fisher
Great motor, Much more solid than the previous trolling motor I owned. I bought this to basically give me more power on windy days, and it has been like putting a Hemi in a Honda Civic. Great motor, super quiet, and super powerful!
