Riptide Edge 55 Full Details
Recommended for:
Small to medium saltwater v-hull, flats, and general fishing boats up to 21'. The 55 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 2,750lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weights - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique
Riptide Edge is Minn Kota's entry-level saltwater bow mount motor, and is designed to be functional, rugged and affordable. It's mount was recently upgraded and now use an extruded arm built from marine-grade anodized aluminum for increased longevity. All Riptide Edge motors feature a variable speed motor and hand control. The Riptide Maxxum line is the next step-up in the Minn Kota saltwater series. If you want a more powerful motor (up to 80lbs) and an optional BowGuard mount with a beefy spring-protected shaft housing you'll want to consider the Riptide Maxxum.

Mounting Details:
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling into the boat for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our compatibility and mounting guides.

Riptide Edge 55 can be wired directly to the batteries, and can also be used in conjunction with a plug and receptacle for a cleaner, more professional installation that's easy to remove. To protect your motor from damage, a circuit breaker is also recommended but is not required for installation.

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: As you likely won't be running your trolling motor perpetually, the actual amount of on-the-water time a motor should allow will be substantially longer than times listed. Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. Stow and Deploy Method:
The new-and-improved Riptide Edge mount features a multi-hinged design that makes stowing and deploying a snap. When not in use, the motor can be manually removed from the water and naturally rotates into a flat position to convenient stow on the deck. When ready for use, simply slide the motor head and shaft forward, and it effortlessly swings back down into the water.
Motor Steering Method:
The Riptide Edge is steered by hand. The unique Tilt Twist Tiller handle tilts up to make steering easier and more convenient. Motor speed is controlled by rotating the hand lever.
Shaft Adjustment:
Riptide Edge's latch-and-door mount makes it easy to adjust the shaft and control how deep the propeller sits in the water.
