Riptide Edge 55 Full Details
Small to medium saltwater v-hull, flats, and general fishing boats up to 21'. The 55 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 2,750lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weights - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique
Riptide Edge is Minn Kota's entry-level saltwater bow mount motor, and is designed to be functional, rugged and affordable. It's mount was recently upgraded and now use an extruded arm built from marine-grade anodized aluminum for increased longevity. All Riptide Edge motors feature a variable speed motor and hand control. The Riptide Maxxum line is the next step-up in the Minn Kota saltwater series. If you want a more powerful motor (up to 80lbs) and an optional BowGuard mount with a beefy spring-protected shaft housing you'll want to consider the Riptide Maxxum.
Saltwater and Freshwater
The Riptide Edge 55 comes with a 52" shaft. For help selecting a shaft length, please see our shaft guide.
Riptide Edge Latch & Door Mount, Variable Speed, Tilting and Extended Tiller, Battery Gauge, Fully Encapsulated Components, Corrosion Protection, Super Quiet Operations, Weedless Wedge Prop, Composite Shaft. (Learn about these features)
Riptide Edge isn't compatible with any AutoPilot, Sonar or i-Pilot accessories. But it is compatible with select quick release plates and handle extensions - please see the right-hand side product bar.
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling into the boat for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our compatibility and mounting guides.

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: As you likely won't be running your trolling motor perpetually, the actual amount of on-the-water time a motor should allow will be substantially longer than times listed. Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 4 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 2 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
The new-and-improved Riptide Edge mount features a multi-hinged design that makes stowing and deploying a snap. When not in use, the motor can be manually removed from the water and naturally rotates into a flat position to convenient stow on the deck. When ready for use, simply slide the motor head and shaft forward, and it effortlessly swings back down into the water.
Motor Steering Method:
The Riptide Edge is steered by hand. The unique Tilt Twist Tiller handle tilts up to make steering easier and more convenient. Motor speed is controlled by rotating the hand lever.
Riptide Edge's latch-and-door mount makes it easy to adjust the shaft and control how deep the propeller sits in the water.
All Riptide Edge motors have a variable speed motor. Learn more about fixed vs. variable speed motors.
The motor's composite shaft caries a lifetime guarantee. If it's ever broken - regardless of the circumstances - Minn Kota will replace it at no charge. The rest of the motor caries a two year warranty backed up by hundreds of local Minn Kota service centers across the country.

The purchase could not have been better. Expert advise, Minn Kota Riptide SE55 works great. Follow up from TrollingMotors.net was great. Price was competitive, what else could you want? Would definitely use again.
The sales person I talked to was very knowledgeable and friendy, and processed my order quickly. I had a confirmation and copy of invoice the same day. They gave me an expected delivery date which was very rapid, and my trolling motor arrived right on time and in excellent condition. Installation instructions were in the box. The trolling motor I purchased was a minn Kota riptide se55 for salt water. The quality of this motor seems very good. Have only used it a couple times, but I'm very satisfied with the performance. The price of the motor and service the was very good. I would highly recommend trolling motor.net to my friends. Al smith

I own an older Minn Kota 30 lbs thrust that is over 10 years old. Bought the Riptide SE 55 hoping to get the same reliability and performance. TrollingMotors.net made my purchase simple with fast shipping. Would buy here again!
High Tide 16ft
The service from trollingmotors.net was great. I just happened to get to them by chance while I was doing my research regarding the best base price on the trolling motor which had no tax and free shipping. I received my motor about 5 days after placing my motor and everything was in good shape. Mounting the motor is fairly easy and you can do it by yourself, but if I were to do it again I would call someone for a hand just to make it easier. I am very happy with the on the water performance. I am happy that I ended up with this model since it has the digital maximizer with power level from 0-100% instead of a 5 speed. Trolling into the wind you can find the perfect speed to hold steady or move at your exact desired pace. After a few trips I did notice the head of the motor was a little loose so make sure you have a phillips screwdriver in the boat if this happens. I tightened the screws and they have not worked loose since. All in all, I am very happy. This is my first bow mount motor but my 3rd Minn Kota and I have been happy with all of them
16' Carolina Skiff - Saltwater
I just bought the Riptide SE55. Thankfully Minn Kota keeps the same mounting layout, old one off, new one on. For a person that is not very mechanically inclined, I didn't have any problem. We switched from a foot pedal steer model to a hand steer, because the foot steer was just too hard to control. Plus my son can now sit up front and drive, which he likes. It comes with a very nice telescopic handle, which allows both tall and small to drive with no adjustments. Speed works very well, especially for a light boat like my skiff. Plenty of pull power. I like the battery gauge, not very technical, but nonetheless practical. The height adjustment in and out of the water is a snap, which matters on my skiff when I am up front vs. my son, especially when you want to get in real skinny water. TrollingMotors.net was great! I ordered it Sunday, received it Wednesday and for no shipping. They beat the best price that I could find by $40. My one beef, not with TrollingMotors.net but with Minn Kota, the user manual is just an installation guide. It doesn't tell you how to actually use the trolling motor. Really a big miss by them, a few pages would be nice. Best rule of thumb, I would do the same order again.
Hells Bay Whipray 16
For nine years, I have been using a Minn Kota RT 55 bow mount. The performance has been fairly good and I only had to have it worked on one time. When it recently stopped working, I decided I was happy enough with it to get another Minn Kota product. The SE 55 seems to be the closest in features and cost to the RT 55, which is no longer made. I searched the internet and local dealers and found TrollingMotors.net giving the best value. I looked at reviews of the motor and they were generally good, but a couple were somewhat negative, claiming the performance was poor. I ordered it anyway and got it exactly when they said I would. It mounted with little work (buying some shorter screws) to my existing Minn Kota quick detach mount. I was immediately pleased to note that it was lighter than my original motor. I was even more delighted to find that it is considerably faster than the RT 55. As 75% throttle it is faster than the RT 55 at 100%. I used to run the RT at 50% to 100% and can run this one at 25% to 75% and get the same performance. I also like the battery charge indicator on the motor, a feature that the RT did not have. I use my boat 100% in salt water and had zero corrosion issues with the previous trolling motor, so I expect no less from this one. I have the trolling motor primarily because my wife, who I fish with most of the time cannot pole and needs to use the trolling motor so I can fish. The motor is used heavily during these days and we have never run out of juice in a single day, in fact one charge will usually last two days. I strongly recommend this motor!
16' 9" Maverick Mirage HPX-V
I am very happy with the Minn Kota Riptide trolling motor that I recently purchased from TrollingMotors.net. The sales, shipping and service at TrollingMotors.net are first class. I came to them because they are very competitive on price. I will return because of the service. I could not be happier. If you haven't had a Minn Kota Riptide before you're in for a treat. I use mine exclusively in salt water and would not consider any other brand. This particular purchase is a direct replacement for an identical motor that suffered badly in an accident (it was a mishap with a friend and an anchor and nothing to do with Minn Kota quality that brought down the previous motor). The Minn Kota Riptides hold up very well to long runs in fairly rough seas and I can use the motor all day on one fully charged deep cycle battery. The previous Riptide showed almost no corrosion at all from almost five years of abusive Florida Keys saltwater. I can't imagine owning any other brand of saltwater trolling motor. I am very happy with my Riptide! And I will definitely be returning to TrollingMotors.net. Now, I just wish they would add chart plotters to their product lin
