Riptide Maxxum 70 Full Details
Small to medium saltwater v-hull, flats, and general fishing boats up to 20'. The 55 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 35000lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weights - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique
The Riptide Maxxum line is a step-up from the Riptide Edge trolling motor. Featuring a more powerful motor (up to 80 lbs) and an optional BowGuard mount (Riptide Maxxum 80 only) with a beefy spring-protected shaft, the Riptide Maxxum is built to stand the test of time. The motor is also available with a latch & door mount for easy motor removal.
The Minn Kota Riptide Fortrex is a step-up from the Riptide Maxxum as it features a super heavy-duty aluminum mono arm along with a stainless steel, nitrogen charged gas spring that makes stowing and deploying the motor similar to opening up the tailgate on an SUV. Consider the Riptide Fortrex if you want the most heavy-duty trolling motor made.

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: As you likely won't be running your trolling motor perpetually, the actual amount of on-the-water time a motor should allow will be substantial longer than times listed. Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 3.6 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 1.8 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
Riptide Maxxum motors feature the latch & door mount which allows for simple motor removal. When the trolling motor is not in use, the motor can be manually removed from the water and naturally rotates into a flat position to convenient stow on the deck. When ready for use, simply slide the motor head and shaft forward, and it effortlessly swings back down into the water.
Motor Steering Method:
The Riptide Maxxum models are steered by hand. The unique Tilt Twist Tiller handle tilts up to make steering easier and more convenient. Motor speed is controlled by rotating the hand lever.
An adjustable depth collar makes it easy to set how deep the shaft and propeller sit in the water.
The Riptide Maxxum 70 motor is as fixed speed. Learn more about fixed vs. variable speed motors.
The motor's composite shaft caries a lifetime guarantee. If it's ever broken - regardless of the circumstances - Minn Kota will replace it at no charge. The rest of the motor caries a two year warranty backed up by hundreds of local Minn Kota service centers across the country.

Best price I could find and free shipping! Shipping was fast! Was on the fence on whether I should go with a 12 volt, but after using the 24 volt I was glad I did, plenty of power and plenty of juice in the batteries to last all day. The 52 inch shaft is a good fit. Overall very pleased with my purchase.

Worked great for 14 months. Then forward control stopped working. (Just have reverse control right now). I now have to deal with the trouble of taking it off and having to drive over 100 miles to get it worked on. Disappointed
Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your motor. Historically this has been a very reliable product. Give us a ring if you have any problems getting satisfactory warranty service.
If you find yourself with the compulsion to purchase this product, be sure you fill out the warrantee card, you will need it. I purchased this motor in mid June 2015 and used it for five half day trips. On Sept. 6, all forward speeds stopped working, along with all speeds except full in reverse. Needless to say I'm not a happy fisherman.
