Quick Details
The Minn Kota Ultrex 80 trolling motor continues to set the bar for innovation.
Ultrex "Power Steering" technology combines the classic feel and responsiveness of a cable steer motor with the brilliant functionality of i-Pilot GPS. The Ultrex is also available with the i-Pilot Link System along with integrated MEGA Side and Down Imaging. But don't let all of this technology fool you, the Ultrex is an absolute beast of a trolling motor designed for the harshest of fishing conditions. With its responsive steering, i-Pilot GPS, available i-Pilot Link GPS networking, MEGA Imaging technology and vault-like construction, the Ultrex truly is the best of all worlds.
Features include a Power Steering-assisted cable foot pedal with Spot Lock and AutoPilot buttons, as well Bluetooth connectivity for a Minn Kota smartphone app that enables software updates and command of basic remote functions.
Historically, the appeal of cable steer motors has been the precise control they give fishermen near shore and around structures. It's why many bass fishermen have been reluctant to make the switch to electric steer motors like the Terrova, even though they offer the tantalizing i-Pilot. But Ultrex removes those barriers by offering the exact touch and feel of a cable-steer motor, augmented with Power Steering to alleviate fatigue. You get improved foot control, i-Pilot or i-Pilot Link functionality, and rugged durability.
Comes standard with i-Pilot or i Pilot Link (includes handheld remote and Power Steering foot pedal), Lift Assist, US2 Sonar, Digital Maximizer, Stow/Deploy Cable, Composite Shaft, Weedless Wedge 2 Prop, Bluetooth, Smartphone App, and a Three Year Warranty. Ultrex 80 Full Details
Recommended for:
Medium to large freshwater bass, v-hull, pontoon and general fishing boats up to 23'. The 80 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 4,000lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weighs - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique
The Minn Kota Ultrex trolling motor is the Porsche of foot control motors - there is no substitute - and is a big step up from the classic Fortrex line of motors. Only the Ultrex line offers Minn Kota's revolutionary new Power Steering and Steering Lock. Additionally, Ultrex comes standard with i-Pilot or i-Pilot Link, US2 Sonar, lift assist, and is available in 80 or 112 lbs thrust. We still recommend the Fortrex trolling motor for fishermen who are looking for a top-shelf cable streer motor but have no need for the advanced technology features. Fortrex is available in 80 and 112 lb thrust levels.

Mounting Details:
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling into the boat for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our compatibility and mounting guides or download installation instructions. Recommended Quick Release Bracket: Minn Kota MKA-23.

Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 3.6 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 1.8 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
Ultrex motors feature a nitrogen charged gas spring that makes it incredibly easy to stow and deploy your trolling motor. This design is very similar to the lift-assist system on many vehicle tailgates and makes stowing the motor effortless.
Motor Steering Method:
The motor is steered via the the Ultrex Power Steering Foot Pedal and/or the i-Pilot Ultrex handheld remote both of which can control motor speed and direction, along with i-Pilot functionality.

An adjustable depth collar makes it easy to set how deep the shaft and propeller sit in the water.
