X3 70FW Full Details
Medium to large freshwater v-hull, bass, pontoon and general fishing boats up to 23'. The 70 lbs thrust motor is recommended for boats weighing up to 3,500lbs. For more help picking the right thrust level - or to learn how much your boat weighs - please refer to our thrust guide.
How It's Unique
The X3 series is a step-up in innovation from the Freshwater series. While both models are controlled with a cable foot pedal, the X3 offers improved steering control and sturdier shaft construction. Additionally, the X3 is available with thrust options of 45, 55 and 70 lbs.
If you're looking for value-priced wireless control, we recommend the MotorGuide Wireless series trolling motors. The Wireless series motors are available in 45, 55 and 75 lb thrust levels.
Shaft lengths of 45" and 50" are available for X3 70 motors. For help selecting a shaft length, please see our shaft guide.
Precision Steering, Combined Composite and Stainless Shaft, Two-Blade Prop. (Learn about these features)
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the boat using the included mounting hardware, and requires drilling into the boat for installation. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. However, if accessing the underside is impossible you can use no access bolts to secure the motor from the top. For more information see our compatibility and mounting guides.

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: As you likely won't be running your trolling motor perpetually, the actual amount of on-the-water time a motor should allow will be substantially longer than times listed. Actual motor run time can vary depending on conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of battery used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20 Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 4.8 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 2.4 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
The X3 series motors features a new aircraft-grade extruded aluminum mount. When the trolling motor is not in use, the motor can be manually removed from the water and naturally rotates into a flat position to convenient stow on the deck. When ready for use, simply slide the motor head and shaft forward, and it effortlessly swings back down into the water.
Motor Steering Method:
The MotorGuide X3 series motors are steered by foot pedal. The cable-driven foot pedal is controlled by rocking your foot back and forth to control motor direction while motor speed is controlled by the rotating dial on the side of the foot pedal.
An adjustable depth collar makes it easy to set how deep the shaft and propeller sit in the water.
All MotorGuide X3 motors are fixed speed. Learn more about fixed vs. variable speed motors.
MotorGuide motors carry a 2 year warranty against manufacture defects and a lifetime warranty on shafts, all supported by hundreds of local MotorGuide service centers across the country.
