Mounting Details:
This motor is bolted directly to the bow of the kayak using the included mounting hardware. Proper installation requires drilling 4-6 bolts into the hull. Ideally, it's best to have access to the underside of the mounting platform in order to secure and fasten the bolting hardware. Motor Voltage and Batteries:
The Riptide Kayak Terrova is a 12 volt motor and requires one (1), 12-volt marine battery or (1) 12v LiFePO4 lithium battery (min 60AH rating). For more information on the proper batteries to purchase for your trolling motor, see our Trolling Motor Battery Selection Guide.
Motor Wiring Details:
The Riptide Kayak Terrova 55 can be wired directly to a 12v battery or it can be used in conjunction with a plug and receptacle for a cleaner, more professional installation. If using a quick release bracket, a plug and receptacle like the Minn Kota MKR-28 will allow you to plug and unplug the motor from the batteries for easy removal and re-mounting.
To protect your motor from control board damage installing a 60amp circuit breaker is highly recommended.
Shielded, marine grade wiring should be used to connect the motor to the power source (aka battery!). To determine the appropriate gauge wiring download this circuit breaker and wiring table.
Power Lead Length:
Two 5' power leads (red and black) ending in terminal rings (aka lugs). Minn Kota motors do not come from the factory with trolling motor power plugs. A new power plug can be crimped or heat shrunk onto the power leads; make sure to have a matching receptacle installed in the hull. If you are replacing an existing motor that has a plug already installed, you can transfer it to the new motor's power leads.
NOTE: Although most power plugs and receptacles are universally compatible regardless of voltage, make sure that they are rated at 60amps or more. Minn Kota and Marinco offer high-quality, reliable plug and receptacle sets.
Pedal Cord Length:
The Riptide Kayak Terrova does not include a foot pedal but a Terrova foot pedal with an with 18' cord can be purchased separately

Motor Run Time:
Important Note: Calculating run time is very difficult due to the many factors involved. As you likely won't be running your trolling motor 100% of the time, the actual amount of on-the-water time will be longer than continuous run times listed below. Trolling motor run time can vary depending on the boat, operating conditions (winds, waves, etc) and the type of batteries used. Listed below are run-time estimates assuming a 100 amp hour rated battery. To learn more, please see our article on calculating motor run time.
- 20+ Hours: At slow, trolling speeds that draw 5 amps or less
- 4.8 Hours: Approx. run time with throttle 50% open
- 2.4 Hours: Approx. run time with the motor at full throttle
Stow and Deploy Method:
The Riptide Terrova's "One-Hand" manual stow and deploy system is activated by a foot lever and employs weight distribution which works like a pendulum and helps carry the weight of the motor. Simply depress the lever and the motor stows/deploys easily. The "Auto-Park" feature automatically lines up the lower unit with the mounting ramp for easy stowing.
Motor Steering:
The motor is steered via the included Advanced GPS remote control or a multi-function foot pedal. The Riptide Terrova 55 can also connect (aka network) to compatible Humminbird fishfinders via an ethernet connection. This networking feature is part of Minn Kota's "One Boat Network" and allows you to control your motor directly from the Humminbird and tap into additional auto-navigation and mapping features.
Downloading Minn Kota's One Boat Network smartphone app and pairing it to your motor enables you to use your phone as a full function wireless remote. You can also use the app to pair up with compatible Humminbird fish finders to access numerous mapping and auto-navigation features.
